A replacement permit will be issued only for the same type of permit as the original and for the same time period. If you had a rooftop permit, you can't switch to a regular permit, for instance.
Once a replacement permit has been issued, the original permit is invalid. A vehicle parked with the original permit will be ticketed and subject to the same fines as if it had no permit.
