Edina, Minn., May 28, 2020 – The Edina Fire Department was called to an apartment building in the 3900 block of West 49th Street 2:50 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, after management called 911 to report the fire.
Fire crews arrived to discover heavy smoke in a second-floor unit of the apartment building. The fire was contained to a bedroom and quickly extinguished by fire crews. There were no injuries.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
“Ensure you test your smoke alarms monthly and replace the smoke alarm batteries twice a year,” said Fire Marshal Rick Hammerschmidt. “Interior doors can also be kept closed to slow the growth and spread of a fire, which gives you time to exit your home.”
The Edina Fire Department received mutual aid from the Richfield Fire Departments. The Edina Police Department also assisted with the call.
