Police Reserves

The Edina Police Department depends not only on its Police Officers and staff, but also on its volunteer Reserve Officers, who help with a variety of events.

Volunteers

Volunteers come from a wide variety of backgrounds. Some are interested in a law enforcement career and others wish to provide worthwhile community service by contributing to the safety and security of Edina.

Primary Purpose

The primary purpose of the reserves is to assist the department whenever needed. This can be on very short notice. Call-outs can be for any number of reasons -- day or night -- including severe weather conditions, serious car accidents, fire scene protection, lost/missing person searches, crime scene protection, power outages or special details as needed by the Police Department.

Schedule

Reserve Officers work a regularly scheduled patrol shift on Friday or Saturday night. Reserve Officers manage traffic control, provide general security at many special events and are also called upon to assist the Police Department with training exercises or mock disaster drills. Reserve Officers may also be asked to assist other cities with emergencies or special events.
