Next Class

Get an inside look at the Edina Police Department through Citizens' Academy!  Classes are typically held in the fall on Thursday nights from 6 to 9 p.m. 

The 2018 Citizens' Academy starts Sept. 6, 2018 and will run through Nov. 15, 2018. 

About the Program

Join us for this 12-week program, which will give you an informative and interactive look behind the scenes of a the Edina Police Department. Through lectures, demonstrations and hands-on learning, you'll discover the "real" world of law enforcement and how we carry out our mission "To Protect and Serve" on a daily basis. 

What You Will Do

Some things you'll get your hands on:

  • Mock traffic stops
  • Tour of the Hennepin County Jail
  • Meet one of our award winning K-9 teams
  • Learn about the Metro Area Drug Task Force
  • Proactive defensive tactics
  • Follow the course of a criminal investigation and process a crime scene with a Hennepin County Sheriff's Deputy
  • Get a close look at our SWAT team
  • And much more! 

Completion of the Program

Upon completion of the program you'll receive an Academy polo shirt, a certificate from Edina Police Dave Nelson and local recognition as a graduate.

Location

Classes take place at the Edina Police Department, 4801 West 50th Street, and the South Metro Public Safety Training Facility, 7525 Braemar Boulevard, Edina, MN 55424.

Registration

To participate in the EPD Citizens' Academy you must:

  • Be at least 21 years old
  • Live or work in Edina
  • Pass a criminal background check
  • Pay a $25 fee
