The Edina Art Center offers classes in metal, copper and metal clay and found object jewelry for ages 15 and older as well as open studio classes for members. Register online by clicking the links below or by calling the Art Center at 952-903-5780.
Adding Color to Copper Clay
Ages 16 & up
Learn several ways to add color to copper clay, from colored pencil to patina inks. Students will design pieces in copper clay and, after firing, enhance the design with various coloring techniques. Copper clay basics will be covered in this class; no previous copper clay experience is needed. Copper clay is an inexpensive and easy way to create pure copper jewelry without saws or power tools. All supplies will be provided. Students are welcome to purchase additional metal clay packets from the instructor. The supply fee of $50 includes 50 grams of Art Clay Copper and metal clay tool kit. Students who have a metal clay kit will receive 2-50g packets of Art Clay Copper. Maximum 12.

Evening Metal Jewelry
Art Center Staff
This class will explore the basics of jewelry design and fabrication. Students will create jewelry pieces using their design skills and using techniques of sawing and soldering metal. Jewelry equipment and tools will be covered. Beginning and experienced students are welcome. All tools and some metals are supplied. Maximum 8.

Students will make jewelry of their own design using techniques of sawing, soldering and buffering metal. Beginning and experienced students are welcome. All tools and some metals are supplied. Maximum 8.

Stone Setting In Metal Clay
Learn multiple ways to set gemstones in metal clay. Unlike traditional silver work, no soldering or power tools are required! Stones can be set easily into the clay and fired into place to create stunning jewelry. Stone setting techniques covered will be for gemstones fired into the clay and will include multiple syringe settings, flush set and faux bezel setting. Students will learn basic metal clay skills as well as stone setting techniques. Perfect for beginner or experienced metal clay artists. All other supplies will be provided. Students are welcome to purchase additional metal clay packets from instructor. Supply fee of $60 includes two 10g Art Clay Silver 950 packets and gemstones. Maximum 12.

Enameling on Metal Clay
Learn three enamel techniques for fine silver metal clay: basse-taille, champlevé and cloisonné using syringe clay. Students will learn how to create pieces in Art Clay silver appropriate for each enamel method. All pieces and enamel will be torch fired. All other supplies will be provided. Supply fee of $65 includes 20g of Art Clay Silver, and shared use of Art Clay syringe and enamel resources. Maximum 12.

New Class! New Instructor!
This class is a beginning metal sculpture class. Students will learn how to create any style of sculpture by forging, hammering or assembling pieces of metal. Students will learn to weld metals using both gas and wire feed type of welders. Bring in your found art from your basement and learn to assemble pieces into a memorable sculpture for your garden or home.
Judd Nelson specializes in creating life size birds from the Midwest and will demonstrate how to create them. Modern or contemporary sculptures are also encouraged and artist Craig Snyder who specializes in this style will demonstrate techniques to create contemporary work. Students are required to wear jeans, long sleeve cotton shirts and boots or closed-toe shoes for safety consideration. *This class will be held in Mr. Nelson’s sculpture studio located near 394 and 494 and is a short distance from The Edina Art Center. **No class July 5.
