Monday Morning Raku Firing

All Skill Levels

Blake Stolpestad

Join this class to make, glaze and fire Raku pottery. Raku is a firing process developed in 16th century Japan for the Japanese tea ceremony. Bisque pots are glazed, dried and fired in the kiln where they remain until the glazes have melted at temperatures around 1,800 degrees. The piece is removed hot from the kiln, put into a metal “reduction chamber” full of combustible material that burns and alters the glaze, color and surface. The Raku process is fun and hands-on and produces wonderful, lustrous and crackle glazes. All students will glaze-fire three times in this 8 week class. *No class July 2. Maximum 8.
