Utility Billing
The Public Works Department provides water, storm drainage and sanitary sewer service. Maintenance of the more than 200 miles of City-owned streets and boulevards also rests with the Public Works Department.
Edina's municipally supplied water comes from 18 deep wells located throughout the city. Lateral and trunk sanitary sewer mains are built and maintained by the Public Works Department. Edina's sewage is transported along trunk mains to the Pig's Eye treatment facility in St. Paul, operated by the Metropolitan Council's Waste Control Commission.
Utility charges are based on a flat minimum charge that guarantees the service and provides a minimum amount of water. Consumption beyond that minimum amount of water or excess usage is billed at a rate per 100 cubic feet. Edina water customers are billed quarterly for amounts used and recorded by meters. Quarterly water bills also include charges for sanitary sewer services and storm drainage.

The City has contracted with Allied Waste/Republic Services for city-wide pickup (every other week) of recyclables from all single-family, townhouses and multi-family homes of eight units or less. Recycling collection is through a contract that the City oversees. Carts for recycling and refuse collection may be set out 12 hours prior to collection and must be stored out of view from the street in front of the house within 12 hours after collection. See the recycling page for more information. A portion of Edina's recycling costs are subsidized from state taxes passed through Hennepin County. Residents pay the remainder of the cost as a recycling service charge on City utility bills.
