Transportation Commission

Sustaining, improving and operating a sound street and transportation system are integral parts of the long-term vision of the City, consistent with its Transportation Plan.

Congestion on the regional roadway system and the failure of that system to accommodate the continued growth in traffic volumes have created and exacerbated traffic volume, speed and congestion issues on local streets. As such, these deficiencies are adversely affecting the quality of life of the City’s residents, as well as businesses located in the City.

In December 2003, the Edina City Council established the Transportation Commission to address these issues and improve the local transportation system to stay consistent with the Comprehensive Plan and Vision 20/20.

The eleven-member Commission (nine regular members plus two student members) was established to help guide the City in implementing its vision for an integrated, multi-modal local transportation system as stated in the City's Comprehensive Plan. The Commission advises the City Council on the operation of the local transportation system (all modes, users and abilities); develops strategies, plans and recommendations to implement the City's multi-modal transportation vision; reviews and comments on transportation capital investment projects, traffic complaint data and transportation funding; and promotes the City's transportation vision through education and open forums.
