The City of Edina is a first ring suburb of Minneapolis with a population of nearly 50,000. There are also 50,000 people employed in the community through one of the many corporations that call Edina home. Edina boast two large retail shopping districts including the first indoor shopping mall in the country, Southdale Center.

The community is supported by nine public schools, a large metropolitan hospital with a state of the art heart center. There are 40 parks that cover more than 1,550 acres.
Annually, officers responded to over 55,000 calls for police service and over 300 DWI arrests. The department averages 18,000 citations each year as we try to battle traffic complainants and congestion in the city. Additionally, the department sends nearly one hundred felony cases and over 900 misdemeanor cases for prosecution. All officers are emergency medical technicians and are the first responders for the 3,000 annual medicals in Edina, working close with the paramedics at the Edina Fire Department.
We are part owners in the South Metro Public Safety Training Facility, located in Edina. This combined public safety training center is operated by four police departments and three fire departments. Officers continually receive high level training to meet the demands of the changing world and expectations of our community.
Officers in this department are expected to work hard and provide a high quality of service to the community, making this a premier department in the region. Edina officers can usually be found at the top of the pay scale in the area with salaries.
Patrol Salaries (2013):
1 year - $57,212
5 years - $76,002
10 years - $78,946
13 years - $80,602
An annual fitness incentive is currently at $625/year. Officers working some special assignments receive an additional $375/month. Patrol officers work a 12-hour shift with varying days off. Experienced officers are eligible to negotiate a higher starting pay based on experience.

New officers will have to complete a one year probationary period and must be eligible for licensure by the Minnesota Peace Officers Standards and Training Board at the time of hiring.

Under state law, a city with a population of more than 15,000 must annually notify its residents of the positions and salaries of its three highest-paid employees. As of Jan. 1, 2013, those positions in Edina are City Manager, $156,043; Police Chief, $129,958; and Director of Engineering, $129,958.
