Chaplains

This group of clergy people serve the community by assisting the department with death notifications and other sensitive situations. They are also available for City employees and the community at large.

Requirements

  • Ordained with five years experience or receive a waiver from the Coordinator
  • Approved by their ecclesiastical body or direct supervisor
  • Pass an application process, including a criminal history check and department interview

Responsibilities

  • Upon request by department personnel, provide pastoral care as needed to any designated citizen or department member without proselytizing
  • Be on-call as schedule to handle emergency situations
  • Attend monthly Chaplain meetings and trainings -- a minimum of 70 percent attendance is required yearly

Our current chaplains are Kurt Kalland, Mount Olivet Church; Rich Phenow, Christ Presbyterian Church; Steve Wheeler, Crossview Lutheran Church; and Scott Searl, Shephard of the Hills Church.

Under state law, a city with a population of more than 15,000 must annually notify its residents of the positions and salaries of its three highest-paid employees. As of Jan. 1, 2013, those positions in Edina are City Manager, $156,043; Police Chief, $129,958; and Director of Engineering, $129,958.
