Open Streets on 50th Business/Organization Participation Policy

Groups are free to request participation in Open Streets on 50th so long as they uphold the mission of Open Streets on 50th to get outside, get active and make connections. Businesses at 50th & France can opt to have their own programming on their properties or in front of their business. Please coordinate with the 50th & France Business & Professional Association.

All are encouraged to work together to ensure a safe, friendly and well-coordinated event.

Participating businesses and organization cooperation with the following rules:

  • Businesses and organizations interested in participating in Open Streets on 50th should apply before Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2016 to allow for adequate time for consideration and approval notification.
  • Confirmed programmers and participants are responsible for providing all equipment required for their activity (including tables, chairs, tents, power source, etc.). The City of Edina and 50th & France Business & Professional Association are unable to provide or guarantee these resources.
  • The Open Streets committee will confirm registrations the week of Sept. 6, 2016 and will assign each participating group a booth number which corresponds with a space along the Open Streets route. Registration is not guaranteed until confirmed and the committee reserves the right to deny participation.
  • Open Streets on 50th will direct all confirmed programmers to a designated location on the street. 50th & France Businesses are able to use the space in front of their business, but must coordinate with the 50th & France Association.
  • Open Streets on 50th is focused on healthy, active living. Therefore, this is a smoke-free event. We do not allow programs that promote the use of or include tobacco products.
  • Alcohol is not permitted on the Open Streets on 50th route. Businesses along the route may serve alcohol on private property so long as proper licensing exists or is obtained, but any served alcohol must remain on that property. Businesses must abide by Edina’s or Minneapolis’ liquor licensing laws in their respective cities.
  • On the day of the event, you may begin setting up an hour before the advertised event start time (noon). Generally, you will be able to begin setting up in the grassy boulevard or in the parking lane (on the street against the curb) before the event start time. Participating groups must set up in their assigned booth/area.
  • The street will be closed to motorized traffic (cars, trucks, etc.) from approximately one hour prior to the advertised start time to approximately 30 minutes after the advertised end time. You may bring your equipment and supplies by car or truck, but vehicles must be removed from the streets prior to the event start time. You will not be allowed on the streets with a motorized vehicle again until after the event ends.
  • You must have all your equipment off the street within 30 minutes of the end of the event. It is encouraged that you begin tearing down near the advertised end time. Police will reopen the street within 30 minutes of the advertised end of the event.
  • Sidewalks must be kept free and clear during the event, and remain passable before and after the event.
  • Per City permits, we are required to have one clear lane (14 feet) at all times during the event. When setting up, please allow space for participants to move around your activity and not interfere with the clear lane requirement.
  • If you are using a tent, it may not be larger than 10 feet wide. Acceptable sizes include 10 feet by 10 feet or 10 feet by 20 feet, as long as the tent does not extend more than 10 feet into the street from the curb. Please plan to not use more than 20 feet of width for your tent and entire programming activity.
  • If you are serving food or using amplified sound, you must have a permit. Permits are subject to revocation from the issuing city if guidelines are not adhered to.
  • Open Streets on 50th reserves the right to not provide space on the street at Open Streets on 50th for organizations, businesses, groups or individuals for any reason. Priority will be given to those focusing on active and/or healthy living.
