Summer Camps

The Edina Art Center offers learning through fun and dynamic summer arts camps. Taught by working artists at a reasonable price – fill your child’s summer with creating art!

AM camps: 9:30 am-Noon
PM camps: 1:00-3:30pm
$75 nm/ $68 m + $8 supply fee
$9 for supervised lunch

The Grade listed is the grade your child will be entering in school Fall 2015.

Six Special Camps with live horses
Allison and her Half-Pint Horses

How would you like to draw or paint or sculpt with a real half-pint horse in the room? The Edina Art Center offers a new summer camp with Allison Polster and her half-pints. These animals are potty-trained, clean and fresh or right from the stable, really cute, and ready to be an artist’s model. Get your cowgirl or cowboy boots on, and let’s create!

AD: 4-5 years, PreK – Clay Critters Register Here
Get crazy! Here is your chance to have a blast creating clay sculptures that are truly unique. Create a bowl and add wacky details that your instructor will share with you.

AE: 5-7 years, K-2nd – Wacky Watercolors (FULL)
This is a great class for students who want to bring their creativity to the next level. Students will be guided according to their needs. Paint with watercolor and learn many techniques like wet on wet, using salt, frisket and more. Personal style and expression is encouraged.

AF: 8-10 years, 3rd-5th – Clay on the Wheel (FULL)
Learn how to use the potters’ wheel to create wonderful bowls and mugs. Decorate using fun techniques and glaze for final firing in our kiln.

AG: 11-14 years, 6th-9th – Piggy Banks (Paper) Register Here
Make a large papier-mâché piggy bank and other fun paper creations in this camp.

AH: 5-7 years, K-2nd – Drawing 101
Register Here
In this class you will learn the basic fundamental principles of drawing; shape, form, value, line, color, space, and texture. You will explore each of these areas in the fun and supportive atmosphere.

AI: 8-10 years, 3rd-5th – Clay Gnomes (FULL)
Learn sculpting techniques & create imaginative garden gnomes using clay. Develop your design skills and make awesome and unique garden stones too.

AK: 11-14 years, 6th-9th – Clay on the Wheel (FULL)
Learn how to use the potters’ wheel to create wonderful bowls and mugs. Decorate using fun techniques and glaze for final firing in our kiln.

August 11- 13

9:30 a.m. – Noon

AL: 4-5 years, PreK – Artful Builders
Register Here
Learn about past and present architecture. Create 2 dimensional architectural designs and translate them into 3-D forms. Incorporate your own experimental designs into buildings of the future.

AM: 5-7 years, K-2nd – African Clay Village (FULL)
A fun camp! Create an African Village out of clay. You will make trees, animals, huts and more. Use colorful glazes to finish your project. Work is fired in our kiln.

AN: 8-10 years, 3rd-5th – Clay on the Wheel (FULL)
Learn how to use the potters’ wheel to create wonderful bowls and mugs. Decorate using fun techniques and glaze for final firing in our kiln.

AO: 11-14 years, 6th-9th – Teen Tea Party Register Here
Ready for a challenge on the wheel? Take your pottery to the nest level by combining several thrown or hand built components into a teapot or other compound vessel. This camp is for youth with some prior wheel throwing experience.

AP: 5-7 years, K-2nd – MN Animals Sculpture

Sculpt your favorite Minnesota animals moving from form to detail. We will take our inspiration from photos and folk tales about various native animals, first drawing then sculpting in clay. A great opportunity to practice drawing, clay modeling, joining, and texture skills.

AQ: 8-10 years, 3rd-5th – Painting 101 Register Here
In these classes you will learn the basic fundamental principles of painting; shape, form, value, line, color, space, and texture. You will explore each of these areas in the fun and supportive atmosphere.

AR: 11-14 years, 6th-9th – Clay on the Wheel (FULL)

August 18-20

AS: 4-5 years, PreK – Clay Treasure Containers Register Here
 What better way to store your precious treasures but in your own hand-made clay container. Make it yours by personalizing it with tools to add pattern and style!

AT: 5-7 years, K-2nd – Decorative Clay Bowls Register Here
Hand-build bowls out of clay. Create surface textures and other ways to embellish your one-of-a-kind bowls. Add colorful glaze for a final touch.

AU: 8-10 years, 3rd-5th – Clay on the Wheel (FULL)
Learn how to use the potters’ wheel to create wonderful bowls and mugs. Decorate using fun techniques and glaze for final firing in our kiln.

AV: 11-14 years, 6th-9th – Tween Drawing (FULL)
Use pencils and charcoal to draw a variety of subjects that will contain depth and texture. You will add impact to your drawings while having fun using some basic tools professional artists use!

1:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.

AW: 5-7 years, K-2nd – Animal Portraits (FULL)
Learn how to draw and paint your favorite animals in fun and exciting ways. We will use a variety of wet and dry media to create unique art pieces.

AX: 8-10 years, 3rd-5th – Comic Book Art (FULL)
Have fun creating your own, unique comic book characters and stories!

AY: 11-14 years, 6th-9th – Clay on the Wheel (FULL)
Learn how to use the potters’ wheel to create wonderful bowls and mugs. Decorate using fun techniques and glaze for final firing in our kiln.
 

August 25-27

9:30 a.m. – Noon
