An entire community's identity and unique character can be defined by public art. In addition to its enriching personal benefits, public art increases a community's assets and can boost real estate values and create opportunities for local businesses to thrive.
Funding
The Edina Public Art Committee received seed money from the City to jumpstart its projects, with additional funds coming from corporate and private donors. Donations to make this program possible may be made to the Edina Community Foundation, 952-833-9573.
Art adds richness to our environment, defines who we are, and creates a sense of pride in our community with a tangible legacy that will last for generations!
What is the Edina Public Art Committee?
The residents of Edina have a strong sense of community and a love of culture and the arts. This public art program began in 2004 as a committee of the Edina Art Center Board of Directors. The Edina Public Art Committee is comprised of residents and City staff with the purpose of advising the City Council in regard to all matters pertaining to public arts within the community.
Goals include:
- Build awareness and pride in community heritage.
- Serve as a vehicle for public education in the visual arts.
- Make recommendations for creative fund-raising mechanisms to public art displays.
- Promote economic development through the arts.
Current members of the Committee are: Chair Barbara La Valleur, Bernice Amacher, Pat Beaver, Faye Ellison-Mitchell, Walt Gregg, Mark Lidke, Bill McCabe, student Anna Pugh, Sarah Rose, and Lynn Rudick. Art Center staff liaisons are Anne Spooner and Michael Frey.
