Beyond the Yellow Ribbon
Edina City Council has adopted a resolution to support the Beyond the Yellow Ribbon campaign.
About Beyond the Yellow Ribbon:
Beyond the Yellow Ribbon is a program intended to create a network of community agencies, organizations and services, which provide assistance and support to local families of deployed military service members.
Edina has joined Wayzata, Excelsior, Minnetonka, Hopkins and St. Louis Park in forming the six-city Southwest Twin Cities Yellow Ribbon Program Coalition, which held its first meeting Sept. 11, 2012, and featured a presentation by a representative of the Minnesota Army National Guard.
Led by a steering committee, the Coalition of government staff, medical professionals, law enforcement and residents from the six cities will help to coordinate a support network with the private sector, as well as aid in the identification of volunteers and resources. The cities will start by forming a network of existing services and create awareness of those services to military families, particularly families whose loved ones are deployed active military members.
Mary Brindle, Edina City Council Member and President Elect of the Rotary Club of Edina Morningside, which has also pledged its support to the initiative, was selected as one of the co-chairs of the Coalition.
