As a first ring suburb with a significant retail area and three major commuter freeways, Edina has a variety of law enforcement challenges. The Police Department faces these challenges with a dedicated group of officers, dispatchers and support staff who consistently deliver outstanding police services.

Chief of Police Jeff Long has worked for the Department for 20 years. He is a strong advocate of effective partnerships with the schools, civic organizations and commercial groups. The Department is proud of its community involvement and high level of service, and is committed to continued efforts to keep Edina a safe place to live and work.

Under state law, a city with a population of more than 15,000 must annually notify its residents of the positions and salaries of its three highest-paid employees. As of Jan. 1, 2013, those positions in Edina are City Manager, $156,043; Police Chief, $129,958; and Director of Engineering, $129,958.
