Arbor Day Activities
The City of Edina's Parks and Recreation Department encourages residents to take part in Arbor Day activities.
In 2013, Arbor Day will be celebrated Friday, April 26. To commemorate this important day, the City of Edina will plant a Dutch Elm-resistant Elm tree at Strachauer Park, 6200 Beard Ave. Last year, the City Tree Crew removed a stately Elm tree on the east side of the shelter building there that had died from Dutch Elm Disease.
The public is invited to attend to help or observe the tree planting at 10 a.m. The City Forester will be available to respond to any questions or comments regarding tree care practices or discuss any issues relating to the operations of the City's tree program. If weather or other conditions arise that would cause a cancellation of the event, it will be held May 8.
“Tree planting and proper care of trees are vitally important aspects of environmental stewardship locally and globally,” said City Forester Tom Horwath. “Trees provide for us not only aesthetic benefits, but also necessary environmental functions and important resources. Arbor Day is a special day to be thankful for all trees and all that they have to offer for us, beginning with the air we breathe.”
